WHO IS TARA FELA-DUROTOYE ?
Tara Fela-Durotoye, a 42 year old beauty entrepreneur, wife and mother of three is one of Nigeria’s foremost entrepreneurs who have over the years redefined the landmarks that women in business can attain.
She started her beauty business at the young age of 20 while still a Law student at the university. She said in one of her interviews, that beauty was what she wanted, and making women feel beautiful was her PURPOSE, like her lovely husband, Fela Durotoye would call it.
She has been able to build her brand, to not only cater for Nigerian women, but black women all over the world.
House of Tara International, goes beyond beauty and beauty products. It’s offshoot motivate and train women to become independent, whole and daring. Her mentorship program has groomed thousands of girls all over Nigeria, helping them see that there is more to what they can do.
TARA FELA-DUROTOYE: THE BECOMING
The journey towards becoming a household brand in beauty, for Tara started as a teenager who watched her stepmother, Modupe Agnes Sagay dress up behind the dressing mirror, applying makeup and the likes. Tara has often hinted that her mother never left the house if she wasn’t looking glam. There was no instagram then else, Mrs Sagay would have been an instant instagram hit.
While still an undergraduate, she started making up for students at the University of Lagos. She recollects that her first major bridal makeup was done for free. She was making up for students and building a reputation for herself on campus. However, she needed to show the outside world and her already loyal client base what she could offer. She offered to do a make over for a bride and her bridesmaid for free, with an agreement that the bride would pay her if she loved her work. The bride was more than pleased with her work and how she looked, that she referred her to her other friends who were getting married. From there on, Tara made make over a thing to desire for brides and their bridesmaid.

Over the years, her company, House of Tara International, has morphed into other wonderful ventures that have taken the beauty industry by the scruff of the neck, rewriting what an African woman is and how she look.
