5 Nigerian Girls Win Gold Medal At World Technovation Challenge


Putting Nigeria on the World map for technological innovation are five young brilliant Nigerian trail blazers who had just won the Gold Medal in the World Technovation Challenge in US.

The five outstanding girls from Regina Pacies Secondary School, Onitsha, who represented Nigeria and Africa in the contest are, Jessica Osita Nwabuaku Ossai Vivian Okoye, Promise Nnalue, Adaeze Onuigbo.

The team, under the tutelage of Uchenna Onwuamaegbu Ugwu defeated other world giants including the USA, Turkey, Spain and China to clinch the gold medal.

The girls had developed a mobile application called the FD-Detector, to help tackle the challenge of fake pharmaceutical products in Nigeria to win the Gold Medal.

Technovation is a programme that invites teams of girls from all over the world to learn and apply the skills needed to solve real-world problems through technology and offers girls around the world the opportunity to learn the necessary skills to become tech entrepreneurs and leaders.

This year saw a total of 115 countries participate in the qualifiers, with only 12 teams making it to the finals.

The girls will be attending Field trips, life-changing workshops including a networking session during their one week stay in USA.
